The International organizing committee in collaboration with the ESN is pleased to annouce the ‘2nd workshop for Cereal Cyst Nematode Biology and Management’ to be held BEFORE the ESN conference on Saturday 22nd and a half day on Sunday 23rd September 2012.

The workshop will follow a similar format to previous International Cereal Cyst Nematode Conference held in Turkey in 2009 (http://www.spipm.cgiar.org/reports) and the 1st workshop in Austria in 2010. As with Austria the meeting will be held in the same venue as ESN and abstracts associated with this workshop will be published with the ESN proceedings.  Since the last meeting in 2009 several strong linkages of this research with European partners including Belgium, Germany and Scotland.  This meeting is aimed to report new research, and update research findings since the last 2009 workshop.

Previous meetings attracted more than 50 people from 20 countries and we welcome both the contributions and interest of scientifc exchange and involvement. The aims of the workshop are to improve our capabilities to iden-tify cereal cyst nematodes towards understanding biodiversity and the threats posed by CCN in various countries and regions, encourage scholarly exchange between research groups, develop collaborative projects that are of mutual beneft, exchange ideas to achieve biology and resistance information, revisit the structure and strengthen the ICCNI (International Cereal Cyst Nematode Intiative)

The sessions for the one day workshop include the following;

1. Current global status of the distribution of CCN

2. The economic importance and population dynamics of CCN

3. Control strategies of CCN on wheat using host resistance

4. Control strategies of CCN other than host resistance

5. Molecular tools CCN research

6. Opportunities for collaboration and funding Submission of abstracts for published ESN proceedings

Abstracts should be submitted to the lead workshop organizers Dr Julie M Nicol ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and Dr Amer A Dababat ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by July 15th 2012 following the guidelines provided by the ESN website http://www.esn-online.org/abstracts. Authors should indicate which session they wish to submit to and if they prefer a poster or paper presentation. These will be edited and compiled by an international committee for the workshop for publication in the ESN meeting program.
